About the Exhibition
Now, in March 2026, the second resident artists in CCN Residency are concluding their long journey with a final exhibition titled <Sijeol-Ilgi: A Diary of the Season>. Since the initial preview, these artists have spent anywhere from three months to over a year living and breathing within CCN Residency. Working across a vast range of genres, from painting and sculpture to installation and new media, each artist brought their own distinct world and a unique way of engaging with their craft. Despite their different styles, they lived together in harmony within the embrace of CCN Residency, respecting each other's individuality and coexisting peacefully.
During their residency, the second resident artists were proactive participants in various programs held at the CCN Residency. They took part in monthly artist meetings, a research tour of the Chungnam West Coast in May, and series of workshops in October and December. Through these shared experiences, they not only sharpened their artistic skills but also opened their hearts to discuss the direction and values of their community. In addition, as artists of a public residency, they played an active role as mentors in educational programs, connecting and sharing their creative passion with the local community. For these artists, exhibiting their work is both a vital process and a meaningful culmination of their efforts. Alongside collaborative exhibitions with external institutions, they each held a series of solo exhibitions at the CCN Residency gallery from last August through early this year. Throughout this journey, they lived within the residency, reflecting, connecting, and creating every day. Looking back, what were once fragmented moments and individual events have now woven themselves together under the name of the past, remaining as a single, collective 'season.'
Works by Ga Eul Kim (김가을)
Artist Ga Eul Kim has long explored contemporary landscape painting, rooted in Eastern philosophical perspectives on nature and water. Using a marbling technique that harnesses the interaction between water and oil, she captures the essence of life and nature on her canvases. Her work, a delicate harmony of inevitability and chance, brings forth invisible worlds that often escape our perception. It embodies the Eastern belief that all living beings coexist, constantly influencing one another. This artistic philosophy was put into practice through various activities during her time at CCN Residency. By participating in educational and collaborative programs, she reached out to those marginalized from the arts, breathing and creating alongside them. This was more than just a program; it was a living practice of the symbiosis and interconnection that grounds her work, reflecting her belief that there is no boundary between art and life.
Works by Loy Kim (김로이)

Artist Loy Kim creates 'Self-Generating Paintings,' based on the concept that all living beings autonomously choose their paths of maintenance and change, allowing life to endure and evolve. She has developed series with titles like Algorithm and Routine. As these names suggest, she discovers the steady laws and rhythms that guide our lives through a world of chaos and uncertainty, capturing them within her work. In her paintings, the structure of a world that repeats, multiplies, and mutates toward growth is expressed through the rhythmic repetition and variation of simplified abstract elements, such as lines and dots. The resulting canvas becomes a self-contained embodiment of the world’s self-generating system, possessing its own aesthetic autonomy. Her elegant and beautiful works, built toward a way of being that embraces affirmation over negation, are a perfect reflection of the artist herself, never losing her bright energy and rhythm toward both art and life.
Works by Min Hyung Kim (김민형)

Artist Min Hyung Kim has been leading installation projects centered on modern consumer society and the public desires reflected within it. By borrowing images of high heels, nail salons, cosmetics, luxury brands, and beverages as specific symbols of our time, she reveals the inner structures of a society driven by desire and consumption. However, her work does not take a direct critical stance or intervene with a heavy hand. Instead, she provides a space for objective reflection, leading viewers to experience and contemplate these structures through their own artistic engagement. Given the nature of her project-based work, which demands immense time and energy for a single exhibition, she recently held a long-awaited solo exhibition, <Switch ON>, at the CCN Residency gallery last fall. In this exhibition, she brought the dazzling, vibrant scenes of urban consumer culture into the heart of Taean’s quiet, reclaimed lands.
Works by Jiyeon Lee (이지연)

Artist Jiyeon Lee served as the representative leader of the second resident artists in CCN Residency. Her consideration for her fellow artists and the studio staff was always warm and thoughtful, a quality that is deeply imbued in her work. Her creative process involves drawing lines on empty canvases or walls, or using tape to construct sculptural forms made of lines. Rather than starting with a pre-planned shape or following rigid rules, her work unfolds through a direct, intuitive communion with space and the objects before her. Much like a child lost in play, far removed from the complex calculations of reality, the artist follows her pure consciousness and subconscious to draw lines that evolve into planes and expand into three-dimensional spaces. Viewers encountering her work are invited to follow these lines, experiencing the freedom and wonder of indulging in art as a form of play where they can truly meet their inner selves.
Works by Yeon Sook Lee (이연숙)

Artist Yeon Sook Lee has developed sculpture and site-specific installation works, taking motifs from places and timeframes that hold personal or collective historical memories. By selecting sites where events unfolded and reconstructing them into spaces that evoke memory, she brings the past into contact with the present, triggering an emotional awakening and a shared resonance on-site. Her mode of expression is vast; she constructs these spaces of memory using a diverse visual language that includes not only fragmentary sculpture and painting but also objects, sound, video, and installation. Because her works were conceived and researched within the physical space of CCN Residency but installed and exhibited at various external sites, she spent a restless year balancing a demanding schedule. Even amidst the flurry of outside commitments, she remained grounded, actively participating in CCN Residency programs and pouring her heart into her creative endeavors. It has been a year of relentless dedication, perhaps busier for her than for anyone else.
Works by Lee Hwayoung (이화영)

Artist Lee Hwayoung, the founder of the group ‘Nod Tree,’ has long practiced a nomadic artistic lifestyle. Her work, a synthesis of installation, video, and diverse performance, is not merely the creation of a single artist; instead, it strives to share and converge with the public across different times and spaces. As a result, the sites where her work unfolds often transform into vibrant, festival-like gatherings. Known for researching her surroundings and developing projects alongside local residents, Lee launched a project titled 'Nakwon Restaurant' during her residency. This project was a contemporary reinterpretation of the 'Nakwon Restaurant' Yulbang, which served as a vital hub for Korean artists during the Japanese colonial period. Her solo exhibition at CCN Residency this past January marked the culmination of the 'Nagwon Restaurant' project she had pursued throughout her stay, serving as a meaningful wrap-up of her achievements during her time at the residency.
Works by Ipkyu Jang (장입규)

Artist Ipkyu Jang focuses on the active integration of digital media into art, yet he approaches it through a fascinating paradox: weaving the communication methods of the digital world into an analog fabric. His work, which absorbs German aesthetic concepts, is intellectual and conceptual, while simultaneously brimming with irony and humor that delights the viewer. At first glance, his sophisticated style seemed a bit out of place amidst the rugged, raw local character of Taean. However, for an artist who avoids being swept away by the currents of digitized modern civilization, favoring instead a slow pace toward the recovery of humanity, the CCN Residency, where time feels as if it has stood still, proved to be the perfect environment. Rarely seen outside of his studio unless for essential schedules, his absolute immersion in his work offered a glimpse into the arduous path of creation and the profound artistic achievements that await him at its end.
Works by Mirela Traistaru

Mirela Traistaru, who traveled from Romania, joined the residency last April. Her creative reach spans a vast array of visual arts, including painting, video, graphics, stage design, body painting, and book illustration. At the heart of this extensive body of work lies the traditional culture and spirituality of her hometown, Bistrița. Her fascination with the timeless flow of human history is beautifully captured in her signature painting series, Heritage, which intertwines classical traditions with contemporary sensibilities. With an artistic intuition that stays open to the new and finds joy in the smallest details, she continued her thematic journey here in Korea. During her stay, she explored the areas surrounding the studio and sought out Korea’s ancient architecture. Like writing in a personal diary, she sketched and painted her observations, weaving the past and present of this land into her vibrant works.
Works by Adam Bazlik (아담 바즐릭)

Adam Bazlik is a young artist from Slovakia. Being part of a generation naturally attuned to cutting-edge media, he creates techno-sculptures that embody modern sensibilities through digital techniques, while simultaneously working in design and video. His work actively embraces the tide of change brought by the new generation, yet he maintains a thoughtful distance, seeking a point of connection and balance with the generations that came before him. His artistic attitude and way of working were a perfect fit for life at our residency. Arriving in Taean in late fall, he joyfully settled into the area, which reminded him of the quiet, serene countryside of Slovakia. He could often be seen exploring the landscape on his bicycle, documenting his journey through video and archives while producing three-dimensional works. Despite his short stay, he perfectly fulfilled his role as a resident artist, actively engaging and communicating through workshops and creative support programs with the local community.
